Apply for Sixth Form at SJH

All students who are motivated and keen to join the Sixth Form will be offered a place on an appropriate pathway.

If you would like to arrange an opportunity to meet with a member of the Sixth Form team to discuss your options in detail, please be sure to contact us and we will be happy to arrange this for you.

1: Technical Pathway

Our Sixth Form Technical Pathway includes a wide range of BTEC and Cambridge Technical courses which  offer students the knowledge, understanding and skills that they need to prepare for a career, continue in further education, or progress to higher education.  These Technical (sometimes known as Applied General courses) are among the most widely-recognised qualification for admission to higher education and Higher Level Apprenticeships and we have an excellent track record of results at KS5 in these courses.

These course include assignment based work which some students prefer to A levels which are often fully assessed through written exams.  Our Technical courses do include exam elements, but some students may find assignments allow them the best chance to demonstrate and develop their knowledge and skills.

Courses on our Technical Pathway include:

- Applied Science (with Forensics)
- Business Studies
- Engineering
- Health & Social Care
- Information Technology (Computing)
- Media
- Music
- Performing Arts
 - Sport
- Travel & Tourism

2: A level Pathway

What are A Levels?

- Advanced level of study with greater depth and challenge
- Available as a familiar or new subject offering progression to wide range of University courses
- All A level courses run for 2 full years.

The A level courses on offer in Sixth Form in September 2024 are listed below:

3: Combined Pathway

For many students, a combination of our Technical and A level courses will offer the right balance of examinations and coursework and will provide the perfect stepping stone to University, Higher Level Apprenticeships and future employment.

For example, a students choosing our Combined Pathway might choose A level Sociology, along with an Applied Science and Health & Social Care BTEC course which would set them up very well for future training or careers in Criminology, Forensic Science or other Health Care routes.

Our Combined Pathway will ensure that students leave Sixth Form with a huge array of options and possibilities, and will allow them to enjoy a broad range of content and skills in their lessons.
