Year 10 Work Experience

All Year 10 students were given the opportunity to find out about the ‘world of work’ by completing a weeklong work experience. This year we have successfully placed all but a handful of students on a work experience placement.

This year has seen a range of employer placements from childcare to carpentry and we’ve even had a trainee pilot! All providing each pupil with an invaluable, real-life appreciation of what ‘work’ involves.

For Year 10, work experience is a significant learning experience in their school life; one that will help to inform and focus their planning and aspirations as they start to think about their post-16 intentions. We’ve had some great feedback from employers but also from the students:

‘I really enjoyed my work experience; I didn’t realise how many different aspects of engineering there were. It has definitely got me thinking about my future.’

‘It was really good working with children and learning how to become a teacher. I know I need to work hard at school and eventually go to university to get a PGCE.

It’s going to be hard but I’m excited to pursue a teaching career’.
‘It was great and I developed some news skills. I also didn’t realise how tiring working can be!’

Looking ahead to next year if you are the Parent or Carer of a Year 9 student it's never too early to start thinking about work experience for Year 10. This year has shown there is a lot of demand out there with limited spaces.

If you or your company would like to offer a work experience placement to one (or more) of our pupils, please contact Miss Cooper or Mrs Derby.
