This year we have been trying to develop our students’ independent reading skills. In Year 7 and 8, we have reading challenges that run across a whole term. In Term 1, students in Year 7 were given the opportunity to read ‘Cirque Du Freak’ by Darren Shan and our Year 8's were offered the chance to read ‘Stone Cold’ written by Robert Swindells. There will be a new reading challenge every term and students can collect these and the accompanying book from the library. Students may keep the book and there are prizes for ambition and endeavour at the end of each term. The completion date for Term 2 entries is 15th December 2022 and prizes will be awarded after the Christmas break.
The awards for Term 1 are as follows:
Overall award for ambition: Koda in Year 7: £25 gift card and a book.
Isabelle Jakes, Molly Garrod, Lily Mills and Ellie Mills also achieved awards for endeavour and will each receive a £10 gift card.
Next term, we will be offering the Year 7's a chance to read ‘Stormcatchers’ for their Term 3 reading challenge and the Year 8's will be able to read the drama adaptation of ‘A Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time’.
