Bee Interesting!

I was invited to give a morning lecture to Year 12 students as part of broadening horizons initiative that Mr Sharpe has introduced. All staff can talk about topics of interest and my topic was Bees.

I love honey bees; I think they are amazing creatures! Did you know that to make 500g of honey a bee would need to fly 50,000 miles to collect the pollen. During my talk we looked inside a bee hive, sampled local honey and watched a short clip on how to deal safely with a bee swarm. For the next session, we are planning on making beeswax candles.
