Babcock Neurodiverse Workshop

Following on from a Babcock Neurodiverse Workshop in October, the same group of students were given the opportunity to visit Babcock at HMNB Devonport.

We all had to have security clearance for the visit and had to sign the official secrets acts, as we were given access to the Combined Weapons Equipment Workshop.

What we saw was incredible and the students could see the amount of work that goes into defending our country and all the different job roles available. We also saw work taking place on HMS Argyle, in the dry dock and the submarine graveyard. Having never seen one submarine in ‘real life,’ we were in awe to see 12!

As we walked around HMNB Devonport, we also had a bit of a history tour and were show blast sites of bombs that detonated in World War II. We were surprised to see how many listed buildings are still standing in the dockyard.

The students were brilliant and a credit to the school. It was a great opportunity for them to visit the site, engage with Babcock employee’s and see things that even Babcock employees haven’t had the privilege to see. One student has been so encouraged by the visit, that they are going to apply for an apprenticeship.
