I am delighted to introduce you to Sir John Hunt Community Sports College.

Mrs Julie Bevan, Principal

We're thrilled to announce our 22 new prefects for Cohort 2026, who have shown exceptional character and dedication. Divided into three groups - Rewards, Wellbeing and Prom - they will work on recognising Year 11's progress, planning an unforgettable prom and supporting peers' wellbeing. They have all been presented with their Prefect ties by Mrs Bevan and Mr Vernon and we can't wait to get started with them!

This term, our Sixth Form students entered various UKMT Maths challenges. We started with 3 students in the girls Maths Challenge and Olympiad and ended with success in the Senior Maths Challenge. These events promote problem-solving and reasoning, applying classroom concepts to real-world problems. Congratulations to all 28 students who tackled the SMC, with 12 earning bronze and silver certificates.

Our Year Group Council are back for 2025! Students are representing peers, sharing ideas and shaping life at Sir John Hunt. Councils organise events, lead projects and suggest improvements, ensuring every student's voice is heard. It's a great chance to build confidence, develop leadership skills and work as a team. Special thanks to Tom and Lily in Year 9 for representing us at the GLT Trust-wide student voice council. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the elections and to our new council members! You are vital in shaping our College's future.

Year 11 History students visited the Devonport Naval Heritage Centre and Dockyard. With Mr Hunt and Miss Cooper, they explored maritime history, viewed artefacts, tried on a Victorian diving helmet and took a boat trip on the River Tamar. They shared historical facts, impressing their teachers. Of course, every school trip needs a lunchtime story, and this one didn't disappoint! During a brief stop at the Barbican, two ambitious students managed to devour a Jasperizer and a half-yard hot dog between them - all within their short lunch break! The Year 11 historians returned to school having seen first-hand the legacy of the city's naval heritage that they have studied in such detail in the classroom

Before the summer holidays, three of our amazing Sixth Form students, Amie F, Alfie R, and Amii K, volunteered to paint a welcoming mural at Woodlands school's Nursery room. The mural now brightens up a space where children enjoy role play, reading, physio, and sensory activities. This was a wonderful collaboration with Woodlands, aiming to bring joy to the children. Well done and thank you to our talented students!

Work Experience for Year 10 and 12 students is crucial. 80% of Year 10 students have placements. Don't let your child miss out. It's a chance to explore careers, build skills, and create networks. Students gain employability skills, confidence, and independence. Work experience enhances university and job applications and provides a competitive edge. It gives insight into the professional world and helps students transition from school to career. Contact Miss Cooper s.cooper@sjhcsc.co.uk with any questions.

Sir John Hunt's GCSE Geography students took a two-day field trip to study urban regeneration in Plymouth and coastal erosion at Dawlish Warren. They visited the Devonport Energy from Waste Incinerator and observed Plymouth's regeneration projects. In Dawlish Warren, they conducted fieldwork on coastal defences. The trip provided hands-on experience, enhancing their skills in data collection and analysis for their studies. Special thanks to all participants for their enthusiasm and teamwork.

On October 4th, our unstoppable Lexi travelled to Portsmouth for a thrilling rematch against her rival, Darla, who previously beat her in the England Championships' semifinals. After three intense rounds and a final 1.5 minutes of fierce punches, Lexi emerged victorious against the English Championship finalist. Lexi shared, 'It was a tough fight, but I'm relieved my hard work paid off!' Her relentless training, running and swimming showcase her determination and dedication. We are incredibly proud of Lexi's achievement and how she embodies our college's core values.

Thanks to PCiP's funding, 12 students get to join the thrilling Superkids project with Dartmoor Zoo and Societree! They'll create an amazing outdoor classroom and take on exciting projects like bird and bat boxes. It's all about teamwork, animal welfare, and sustainability. Last year's success even brought us adorable meerkat pups named Everest and Endeavour! See the news article here:

Huge congratulations to Maddie, who has officially earned her Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do after an incredible five-hour grading session! We're all so proud of Maddie's hard work and perseverance, a fantastic achievement and an inspiration to everyone!
