Online safety at Sir John Hunt Community Sports College we recognise the value that technology provides to our students both at school and in their personal lives. We want to ensure that our students are prepared to use the fantastic wealth of resources available on the Internet for learning and recreation. However along with the opportunities that ICT offers, students and parents need to be aware of the problems and the risks. Online safety has a very high priority at Sir John Hunt and all students receive advice and guidance appropriate to their age and ‘e-awareness’. If you need to need to report an online child safety issue then the Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (CEOP) offers a simple way to do so.
Below you will find some guidance on how you can ensure your child stays safe online:
- Talk to your child, discuss the useful tips for students provided below.
- Encourage your child to go online and explore – safely!
- Set boundaries. Know what connects to the internet and how. Keep it in a family space.
- Use parental controls on devices that link to the internet.
- Help your child to understand that they should never give out personal details to online-friends
- Help your child to understand that some people lie online and therefore it’s better to keep online mates online.
- If your child receives spam/junk email and texts remind them never to believe them, or reply to them.
