On Friday 22nd November, Mr Fitzwater and Miss Robinson took a group of Year 7 students to Paignton Zoo where we studied the animals in their enclosures and looked at the different habitats.
This was an enriching opportunity and for some of the students it was their first time visiting a zoo.
The students were exceptionally well behaved and were a credit to the College. Despite the weather being extremely wet, the students did not let it dampen their spirits; they enjoyed every moment.
When we arrived, we made our way down the cascading path to the zoo’s entrance. The students and adults were excited. Mr Fitzwater was confused as to why the doors would not open - it was because the zoo did not open until 10 am! We were there at 9:15! Oops! After waiting for 45 minutes, the doors finally opened. With the weather being so bad, we pretty much had the zoo to ourselves. It was fascinating seeing all the different animals. Some of our favourite animals were the reptiles, gorillas, crocodiles, giraffes and the big cats.
Amazingly, Mr Fitzwater captured a video of the lion slipping off the shelter and falling to the ground. It was very funny.
Even though the students were sad to leave, they were happy to spend 40 minutes looking around the gift shop – you can’t leave the zoo without looking in the gift shop! Many purchased gifts for their family.
A great day was had by all. Here’s to the next adventure.
