Parents, get your child ready for their work experience !

Dear Parent/Guardian

Your child will be taking part in work experience from Monday 24th to Friday 28th June 2019. They will be attending a work experience briefing on Friday 14th June 2019 in which they will be provided with the details of their work placement, including their working hours and their point of contact.

About Work Experience
During the week, students will learn about the world of work as well as develop essential employ ability skills that companies look for when they recruit.

At the end of the placement, the employer will complete an evaluation based on your child’s performance, attendance, punctuality and attitude, which will enable them to obtain a Work Experience Certificate, which can be shown on their CV.

Throughout the process, students will be treated as an employee within the company and will be expected to follow the organisation's rules and regulations as if they were a member of staff. Not only does this ensure that they are safe but, it also gives them a more realistic taste of what it is truly like to be in a working environment.

Transport and Lunch Arrangements
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian to ensure that students are able to make their own travel arrangements each day, both to and from the work placement and that they arrive on time.

Students will also need to provide with their own lunch so please ensure that your child has a packed lunch or lunch money. If your child receives free school meals and would like to collect these to take to their work placement, please contact Miss Newberry. Employers permit staff to leave the premises at lunchtime so please be aware that your child may be off site during the day.

Throughout the week students will need to attend their placement wearing appropriate clothing - please note jeans or caps are not appropriate. Please consider the type of business that they are going to and advise them accordingly.

Absence
If your child is unwell during Work Experience week, please contact the College in the normal way to inform us of their absence. Please also contact the employer to inform them that they will not be able to attend that day. You will need to do this for every day of your child’s absence.

If you would like further information
We will be holding a drop-in session for parents on Tuesday 18th June from 3.30pm – 4.30pm in order to answer any questions. Please use the Sir John Hunt Student Services entrance to attend this session.

If you have any questions prior to this, please contact me on s.newberry@sjhcsc.co.uk or on 01752 201020.
