Time for Tea...time for people

Here at Sir John Hunt we pride ourselves on our links with the local community and some of the great work that we do, in particular with the local senior citizens.

At Christmas we hold a special Christmas dinner and dance catering for over 80 residents. As a result of such events we want to continue our links and have since formed a social dining group made up of six volunteers from sixth form and ten local elderly residents. The students are now regular volunteers for the Royal Voluntary Service and the residents live within the local area.

Last week we had afternoon tea consisting of of delicious cream cakes and tempting treats. We also played a few games and caught up on the latest gossip within the local community. It was a pleasure to share stories and relax for the afternoon and we are now planning our next event in July when the residents have opted for a game of rounders!

This social integration not only teaches students valuable life skills but also a sense of community service and pride.
