Superkids - Dartmoor Zoo

Due to the success of last year’s Superkids project, we have been very fortunate that Promoting Children in Plymouth (PCiP) have extended their funding to allow us to run this project again this year. This year we can support 12 students who, with Dartmoor Zoo and in partnership with Societree, will construct a covered outdoor classroom capable of accommodating 31 pupils at a time.

Although still in the early stages, our students have already shown impressive teamwork, determination, and commitment to our school values. They’ve stepped outside their comfort zones to take on new challenges such building bird and bat boxes.

We are extremely grateful to PCIP for making this experience possible, and to Dartmoor Zoo for their continued partnership. The success of last year’s project has been clear to see. So much so that the meerkats at Dartmoor Zoo recently had pups! We were even invited to name them, a huge honour. We chose Everest and Endeavour, names inspired by Sir John Hunt’s historic ascent of Mount Everest, symbolising courage, resilience, and determination - qualities that reflect our own school values of Respect, Ambition, and Endeavour. See the news article here:

By taking part in these projects, our students not only help support animal welfare and sustainability but also gain valuable hands-on experience that will benefit them in future careers, whether in construction, design, animal care, or beyond. We are so proud of what our students have achieved so far and can’t wait to see what they accomplish next as the project continues to grow.
