I wanted to write to you one more time before the end of this academic year to give you an update on our plans for the rest of this term, for the summer holidays and our plans for September.
Firstly, to confirm, the College will remain closed until the summer holidays. However, we will continue to provide childcare to vulnerable children and children of key workers up until 17th July 2020.
I wrote to you earlier this term to explain how we would be supporting all of our students with their home learning during the College closure. As promised, we have continued to offer support to all of our students by providing opportunities for parents and carers to request support where it is required. Thank you to all of you who responded to our support surveys. As always, please feel free to contact us at any time, if you or your child needs our support: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/contact-us.
All of our home learning resources have now been moved on to Google Classroom and we have produced guidance to address all of the common queries, which can be found on the website: http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/students/homework/google-classroom-tutorial. From September 2020, all of our homework will be set using Google Classroom, so it is vital that all students are able and confident to access this in the future.
I would like to congratulate all of our students for their efforts to engage in their home learning during the College closure and to commend all of you in supporting them to do so. It has been a very challenging time for us all and I am grateful to my team of staff for all of their hard work. I have received many emails from parents and carers thanking me for the brilliant support my staff have provided. If you wish to nominate a member of staff to receive a ‘thank you’ card, please use this link: https://thankateacher.co.uk/thank-a-teacher/thank-a-teacher-form/. It is completely free and the member of staff will receive an e-card.
We have made available a number of different packs to support our students through ParentPay, many are free of charge and some have been subsidised.
We have been working on making end of year reports and timetables for September available for you all to access through our SIMs Parent App. For those of you who have already registered to use the App, you should be able to view the latest reports and timetables. If you have not already registered, please see our website (http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/parents/sims-parent-app) to download the App and look out for another activation email that we have recently sent out.
Many of you have been in touch to say that you have appreciated the help and support you have received from Arterne. I am pleased to say that this provision will continue over the summer break (http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/our-college/news/arterne-community-support). For those families eligible for Free School Meal vouchers, the Government has agreed to support this over the summer holidays and you will receive a one off voucher that will cover the summer period. This will be issued at the start of the holidays.
At this point in time, as per the Government’s advice, we are preparing for the College to open as normal from September. This is, of course, subject to change but we sincerely hope that a change to this plan will not be necessary. I will write to you again in August to confirm the final arrangements for welcoming our students back to College. I know that some students may be nervous and worried about returning to College in September, after such a long break, but rest assured that we are taking this into account when we plan our September arrangements. Please see that attached link for helpful advice. (http://www.sjhcsc.co.uk/safeguarding/)
To ensure that all of our staff are able to fully prepare for our students returning, I have arranged an additional training day on Monday 7th September 2020, and we intend for students to return to us on Tuesday 8th September 2020.
It is also the time of the year when we say goodbye to staff who are leaving us and welcome to staff who are joining our College.
Goodbye and good luck to the following staff who are leaving us for new adventures:
Mrs Thain, Mr Friend, Mr Davis, Miss Nash, Miss Morgan (Science), Ms Bassett, Miss Robinson, Mrs Tiley, Miss Wheeler and Miss Matten.
