Firstly, I sincerely hope this letter finds you all well and that you and your families are finding new routines in light of the measures in place that are keeping us safe.
Secondly, I wanted to write to you all again ahead of the Easter break to update you on a few things but in particular, on the work that has been going on to support our students in continuing their learning during this extended period of time, at home.
I would like to thank my teaching staff for their efforts in updating our website with a range of excellent new resources. A huge amount of time and effort has gone in to ensuring that our students do not miss out. Staff have created tasks for students in all subjects and across all year groups to enable them to access the programmes of study that they would ordinarily follow. All tasks/resources are available to be accessed via the Homework area on the College website We will continue to update these resources next term.
Home Learning Structure
We suggest as a structure that students try to follow their school timetable to ensure that they maintain the relevant proportion of time per subject. If your child does not have their timetable with them then you can view it through the SIMs Parent App. If you do not currently use the SIMs Parent App and would like to, then please email firstname.lastname@example.org for access.
During the last couple of weeks we have been forced to limit the channels of communication between parents/carers and the College simply due to a shortage of staff. Although this remains the case while the College is closed, we would like to encourage you to contact our teachers and key support staff directly where it is appropriate. For example if you would like some information from a particular teacher of your child or if you require particular support from the pastoral team. Please see the contact details for our staff on the "Meet our Staff" area of our website.
We want to ensure that all of our students have the basic equipment they need to continue their learning at home. Therefore we have ordered a large quantity of exercise books, pens, pencils, rulers and highlighters that we will put in to packs to make available for collection after Easter. These packs will be free of charge but will need to be ordered through ParentPay. If you would like to order a pack please visit: https://www.parentpay.com/ or follow the link through our website. Please note the packs will be available to order as soon as they arrive so may not appear in ParentPay immediately.
Online Platforms/Google Classroom
As mentioned in previous letters, we use a number of online platforms to complement our curriculum and to provide quality opportunities for students to learn independently at home. If any of our students are unable to login to these platforms or need support then please see the contact details
Staff contact: Miss C Pownall
Staff contact: Mr D Stockton
Staff contact: Mr J Gardiner
Also, as part of the College’s support for students, we are in the process of setting up online lessons using Google Classroom. We are aware that some students may already have a school account, which means that all they need to do is login and join the relevant ‘classes’. For students who are new to Google Classroom there will be instructions added to the homework section of the website under the relevant subjects. If any of the students have trouble logging in to their Google Classroom accounts, then please email email@example.com with the year group and name of the student that is having an issue and we will assist as promptly as possible.
Students may access Google Classroom as soon as they are able, however the first lessons will appear from the week beginning Monday 13th April. It would be helpful if students attempt to log in the meantime, to identify any issues before the first lessons are set. If you have any subject specific questions, then please contact the relevant teacher or Curriculum Leader on the "Meet our Staff" area of the website.
There are a number of other online resources that we do not necessarily use/subscribe to as a College, but you may find them useful to support your child’s home learning and wish to explore them. Some are free and some would require a subscription of your own, please see the links at the bottom pf this page:
As I mentioned in my previous letter, we are closed during the Easter break but if you wish to express an interest in emergency childcare from Tuesday 14th April then please ensure you complete the survey on our website by 9.00am on Wednesday 8th April. Please be aware that the school providing childcare should be a last resort and we will only consider emergency provision for key workers when there is no alternative option. Parents/carers should keep their children at home if at all possible.
Free School Meals
Parents of those eligible for free school meals should now all have received both an electronic communication regarding the process for claiming the Wonde food vouchers and also a communication containing the actual vouchers. From our system we are able to see that the majority of parents have now accessed these vouchers. If you have not received the vouchers, or are having difficulty in accessing them then please contact us through our admin inbox firstname.lastname@example.org.
There are a number of services in the city and nationally that can provide a range of support for families or individuals in need. If you would like to enquire about available support then please visit the safeguarding section of our website.
We are continuing to support a community outreach team called Arterne Community Support. They are operating from our Woodview reception every Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings between 10.30am and 11.30am. They are able to help provide essential supplies and their service is not limited to those eligible for free school meals. If this is something that you are interested in then please contact them directly. See our news item for their contact details.
We are aware that some of you may have changed your contact details, for example, a new mobile number or email address. Particular during this time we urge you to ensure that you let us know if there are any changes to your contact details as soon as possible so that we can ensure that you receive all communications. You can update your own contact details through the SIMs Parent App (see above) or contact us through the website.
I will write to you all again in due course with another update. In the meantime I wish you all the best over the coming weeks. Please continue to stay safe and look after each other.
Mrs J Bevan
