A group of Year 9 girls took part in the Engineering Her Future trip, designed to inspire young women to consider careers in engineering and the built environment. As part of the day, the students had the unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at the Tamar Bridge in Plymouth, learning about its structure, maintenance, and the engineering involved in keeping such an important piece of infrastructure running smoothly. They also met a female Civil Engineer who spoke to the girls about her career journey and the wide range of roles within civil engineering, from design and construction to safety and project management.
The girls really enjoyed the trip, and the experience helped to break down stereotypes around engineering and encouraged the girls to think about future pathways in STEM.
