This week, our Year 10 Catering students swapped textbooks for trolleys as they stepped behind the scenes of the school kitchen for a hands-on tour like no other. Dressed to impress in their stylish blue hair nets, the class got an up-close look at the powerhouse of our kitchen operations.
From the whoosh of the pass-through dishwasher to the frosty chill of the walk-in fridge and freezer (yes, they actually stood inside – and yes, they did come out frozen!), students got a real taste of what it takes to run a professional kitchen.
Highlights included checking out the giant ovens, fat fryers, and the ever-busy service hatch – the final stop for food before it makes its way to hungry mouths.
Not only was it an eye-opening experience, but everything they learned supports their coursework and exam prep for Year 11.
One student said, “It was really cool – literally – standing in the freezer! I didn’t realise how much equipment was involved in catering.”
Well done, Year 10 – you braved the cold, handled the heat, and looked great doing it. Michelin stars next?
