Students experience "The Big Bang" at Babcock with the Royal Navy

Students from year 7 were invited by The Royal Navy to celebrate a day of engineering using the Big Bang theme. The Big Bang is a UK-wide programme led by engineering UK working with around 200 partners to bring science and engineering to life for young people. The Big Bang encourages more young people to take part in STEM initiatives with support from their parents and teachers.

The Navy and Babcock International teamed up to provide what was an outstanding day of STEM through the provision of high quality activities and information into careers and further education.

There is a huge variety of exciting career paths open to people with STEM based skills.

Students were able to get involved in activities such as our FESTO kit (pneumatics), Type 45 Turbine Engine and the Formula 1 Technology Challenge. In addition a tour of the Navy Base at HMS DRake also took place.

The event was officially opened by the Naval Base Commander and helped to inspire students as well as raise their aspirations.
