Careers in Construction and the Built Environment

There is a role in construction for everyone, whether you're good at maths and sciences, love woodwork or computers, or are great at organising projects.

Did you know that construction accounts for nearly 3 million jobs in the country? This number is only set to grow – increasing by around 3% over the next five years. With some 220,000 jobs being created to meet the skills gap, it is estimated that 32,000 of these jobs will be in the glorious South West.

Over the next five years, it is expected that the construction industry will need around 10,000 jobs to fill the current skills gap in Plymouth.

Construction – a career like no other
The world of construction has changed – health and safety is a top priority, advancements in technology such as virtual reality are continuously improving and changing how we design, and the number of women in construction is on the rise. In today’s construction industry, there are more roles available than you could ever imagine from surveyors to building information modelling, demolition operatives to bricklayers and more.
